Epsaka tradicija i istorijske činjenice

      Na samom početku, tačnije u prvoj pesmi, gde se otvara poglavlje pesama o Jerini, biva viđena pozitivno, okarakterisana kao žena koja poseduje čoveštvo, a to je oslikano u pesmi  „Ženidba Đurđa Smederevca“. Tu je istaknuta kao svetao lik, žena koja govori svom mužu da pozove Srbe u svadbu (jer je on odbijao govoreći da su Srbi kavgadzije i pijanice). Istaknuta je sva njena veličina, ljudskost, hrabrost, ali i patriotizam. Međutim, pesma koje slede posle, pamte kao mučiteljku, prokletnicu, ubicu. Sva njena želja da sačuva Srbiju i njen narod, pogrešno je shvaćena.Zelela je da uzdigne Srbe,a Srbiju sačuva.Ipak,naš narod je rad koji je bio neophodan za sačuvanje Srbije shvatio kao hir i pakost jedne strankinje i zauvek je zamrzeo i prokleo najpogrdnijim rečima,počevši od samog njenog imena.Nijednog trenutka se nisu zapitali da li je njen jedini greh bio borba za Srbiju i ogromna ljubav muža.Đurađ biva negativno okarakterisan odbijanjem da pođe u Drugi kosovski boj ,na čelu sa Jankom Sibinjaninom.Niko se nije obazirao na razloge i činjenice koje su ga sprečile.Znao je da je taj Jankov predlog uzaludan,a potom bio je već u godinama ,a sinovi su mu bili na turskom dvoru,zarobljeni i svako dodatno zameranje je bilo suvišno.Ipak,to odbijanje biva dovoljno da se na njega baci kamen ,sve činjenice bace u senku,jer ga epska tradicija u prvi plan oslikava kao izdajnika.        

Epika je jasna po pitanju karakterisanja likova Jerine i Đurđa,negativni i krivi.Despotica Jerina ostaje zauvek zapamćena kao zlo srpakog naroda,pohlepna,prevrtljiva,licemerna i razmažena princeza.Epska tradicija se surovo poigrala sa njenim likom i to nepovratno.Naš narod je za vreme njihove vladavine morao da gradi i popravlja Smederevo,kao i ostale gradove,kako bi sačuvali Srbiju od neprijatelja.Za taj rad je bilo neophodno da se angažuje što veći broj ljudi.Mnogi želeći da izbegnu rad,odmetali su se u hajduke,a i uveliko se pričalo kako despotica druguje sa Turcima.A,istina je bila suprotna,želela je bolje sutra sebi i svom narodu.Jerina se spominje kao žena koja manipuliš,koristi,vara i poigrava sa mužem,jer je on slabić,vrlo mek i popustljiv,jer su Srbi smatrali da je muškarčina onaj koji udara rukom o sto,a ženina uloga je viđena samo kao pokorno slušanje.Njihov brak se nije podudario sa tadašnjim bračnim pravilima,jer su brak zasnivali na međusobnom razumevanju,poverenju i poštovanju.Ona nije bila žena koja samo rađa decu,ćuti i klim,a glavom potvrdno,jer je bila posebna,vešta,pametna,puna ideja koje je njen muž slušao,ali i realizovao.Narod u njoj nalazi krivca za sve svoje muke,iscrpljenost,iznemoglost.Kćerka Mara je takođe,negativna u pesmama,bezdušna,čijom se krivicom oslepljuju braća,uz majčinu potporu i tako postaje ozloglašena poput majke.Prva istina je bila da je Mara kasno saznala za sultanovu nameru I samim tim prekasno mu pala pred noge,moleci da joj ne oslepi bracu.Jerina je opisana kako udaje kćer za sultana Murata,cara neprijateljske zemlje.Pesme je spominju kako ima nameru da otme Stefanovog sina,da ne bi nasledio presto,zatim je neke pesme pamte kako otima Zmaj Ognjenog Vuka u nameri da ga ubije.Večiti Jerinin neprijatelj ostaje i Bajo Pivljanin.
